This past weekend I was in Nashville, Tennessee, doing a Bass University program, and a lot of people were asking me about the new Yamaha VMAX SHO four stroke. The hype has gone mainstream now, and a lot of the public are really interested in this engine. Some of the first production models are arriving at the dealers, and all bass fishermen are hoping to see for themselves that this new motor really does have a holeshot and top end speed that competes with the two stroke engines.

January is a big month for boat shows. During the winter months when fishing conditions can be brutal here in the Carolinas, a lot of people like to visit the boat shows to see the new boat and motor models for the upcoming year.
I recently went to the first boat show of the season, which was in Raleigh, North Carolina, and I was working for my friends at Collins Marine, which is my local Ranger/Yamaha dealer just outside Smithfield, North Carolina. I’ve been kicking around what boat I was going to run this year, and I finally decided last week that I’m putting my new Yamaha VMAX SHO four stroke engine on the back of a Ranger® Z521. In all the test drives I did with the new VMAX SHO engine I ran it on a Ranger® Z520, which is a boat I’ve ran for the last two years (one with a VMAX 250 and one with w F225 four stroke), so I’m very familiar with that boat.
