January is a big month for boat shows. During the winter months when fishing conditions can be brutal here in the Carolinas, a lot of people like to visit the boat shows to see the new boat and motor models for the upcoming year.
I recently went to the first boat show of the season, which was in Raleigh, North Carolina, and I was working for my friends at Collins Marine, which is my local Ranger/Yamaha dealer just outside Smithfield, North Carolina. They had one of the first Yamaha VMAX SHO four stroke outboards which are starting to trickle into the retail market and you should have seen the crowd around it.
It was pretty interesting to see, because the engine cowling was off of the motor at least half the time, as the public wanted to see the inner workings of the engine and the little intricacies they’ve been hearing about. At the same time, I had a group of people asking me about my experiences with driving the engine and how it compared to the standard Yamaha four stroke and VMAX models.
